KENNEDY RESIDENCE
Founded in Paris in 2002 by Guillaume Alan, the eponymous studio, based in Paris and London, has become well-known and sought after for its timeless elegance and serene interiors. At just 22, the designer opened his own studio in Paris, in the Saint-Germain-des-Prés area after growing up in an architecture and design-oriented environment. In 2011, another design studio was launched in Mayfair, London, working on international projects for a high demanding clientele.
Aesthete of the epure
In this private Kennedy residence owned by a French couple, with views of the Seine and the Eiffel Tower, Alan created a perfect sanctuary that reflect a serene sensibility. Designing the project from scratch, working through a very elaborate and highly precise process, underlining historical references, this project is flawless and creates an extremely coherent whole. Creating and working on architecture, interior and furniture design, in line with the finest tradition of French design and décorateurs ensembliers, Alan gives us here a masterclass of epure. Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. The architecture, the light, the floor, the materials used, the colour palette and all the furniture pieces are all perfectly linked.
The architecture is discovered while walking
For this home with 360° views, a complete reorganization of the space has been made. Light has been extremely important in terms of architecture, 'Light makes architecture, it’s thanks to the light that walls, space, shadows can exist' Alan says. All about degraded shades, the palette weaves through different supports: walls, floor, brushed wood, natural marble, rug in natural linen, soft leather, silk, wool. Although this gorgeous apartment isn't shy of space, by using the same tone across the apartment not only creates the illusion of more space but it also allows for more depth, texture and warmth to be added to each room without needed to commit to a colour or unneeded feature.
Stunning furniture pieces speak of minimalism and richness of textures
One of the explanations of the ultime success of this project is that everything has been thought-out and drawn by the same hand, which is absolutely rare in the world of architecture and design. Master of sophisticated minimalism, Guillaume Alan's strong lines and impeccable proportions are always balanced with douceur – softness - brought by the curved lines of his furniture pieces and their soft textures. Custom-made and drawn out, his furniture pieces reflect a smart alchemy between materials used in the architecture and beauty, a subtle balance which marks the « stamp » of Guillaume Alan.
